I received a nice bottle of wine and pledges of free parking in this garage whenever I might be shopping in the area.
Hey, when an English-speaking salesman is a prerequisite, bargain hunting takes a back seat.
As you have surmised by now, I chose the shorter car (reference my earlier post). Given the parking situation on my street -- and the huge smile on my face as I put her through the paces this afternoon -- I think it was a wise choice.

And, she's even wearing snow boots already. It will be spring before I see the real wheels and tires, which for now are safely tucked away somewhere at the dealership.
While I made do with regular tires during two Salt Lake City winters, I've heard that Berlin is a bit less aggressive about snow removal, so I'm happy to be well prepared.

And, I must say, it was a real pleasure to turn in the Opel Meriva (Diesel) today. After two months, the thrill of driving an underpowered bakery delivery mini-truck begins to wear off.
The car acquisition marks the third out of four of my self-imposed imperatives for "settling in." Work permit, apartment (see above), and car can be checked off the list.
The last, and most challenging -- learning German -- awaits!
But not until I finish unpacking my boxes from the States, which also arrived today. Yes, I admit, I mailed myself five cans of Rosarita Refried Beans. But, in my defense, the're the six ounce size!
